Living with Fragile X
Fragile X is a life-long condition but early intervention by health, medical and educational professionals can help children with Fragile X reach their full potential.
The specific support that can help you and your child will depend on your child’s needs.
Early intervention can be provided by a number of different health professionals including:
Occupational therapist. An occupational therapist can work with you and your child on hypersensitivity, tactile defensiveness and fine motor disorders. The occupational therapist can provide advice and assistance on calming techniques, movement, fine motor development and oral motor development.
Speech Pathologist. A speech pathologist can work with your child to help them in developing their language and speech. This might include improving pronunciation, slowing down speech or using non-verbal ways to communicate.
Psychologist A psychologist will focus on practical support for your child and family and can assist with communication, behaviour support, social emotional support, educational support and family support.
There are also educational supports which will help children with Fragile X to get the most out of their school years.
